The Shepherd Barn at Historic Northampton
The historic Shepherd Barn was renovated in 2020-2023 and opened as a new seasonal venue for concerts, performances and workshops in August 2023.

The barn was built circa 1805.  Its first use is believed to have been as a warehouse or a storehouse at another, undetermined location.  By 1853, the structure was moved to the rear of 66 Bridge Street.  It was used as barn by the Shepherd family, which owned the property and the house facing Bridge Street from 1856 to 1969.  In 1923, Thomas M. Shepherd died, leaving his property in his will toward the formation of a historical museum.  His wife, Edith Carpenter Shepherd, convinced two of her Bridge Street neighbors to donate their houses at 46 Bridge Street and 58 Bridge Street to the historical society. ​
The Shepherd Barn at 66 Bridge Street
Today, Historic Northampton comprises the three houses - the Damon family house (1813), the Parsons family house (c, 1719) and the Shepherd family house (c. 1796) - and the Shepherd barn.  An exhibit gallery in a modern addition to the Damon family house features the exhibition, Making it on Main Street.  The exhibit is open Wednesday - Sunday from 12 noon to 4 pm.
