A Conversation with Bob Cilman, Director of the Young@Heart Chorus
and the former director of the Northampton Arts Council
and the former director of the Northampton Arts Council
Join us for this special evening recognizing Bob Cilman, who has been director of the Young@Heart Chorus since 1982 and was the Director of the Northampton Arts Council from 1989-2014. The chorus (ranging in age from 75-92) began in the Walter Salvo House, a Northampton elderly housing project as "a way to pass the time." Under Cilman’s leadership, it has developed into the stereotype-defying, generation-crossing musical extravaganza. The Chorus has performed on The Ellen Show and The TonightShow, toured internationally and has been the subject of the hit Fox Searchlight documentary, Young@Heart. His work with the Arts Council included the creation of the Four Sundays in February Series and Transperformance. Cilman will look back at his early years in Northampton and how this work all got started.
