Overview
Historic Northampton sends email announcements through Constant Contact online marketing company.

There are multiple reasons why Historic Northampton's email messages may not be reaching your inbox.
  1. Historic Northampton does not have the correct email address in its email system.
  2. Your email address was "unsubscribed" either intentionally or unintentionally.
  3. Historic Northampton's email messages were marked as SPAM and sent to your spam or junk folders instead of to your inbox.
  4. A security program on your computer blocked the messages from reaching your inbox.
  5. Someone else in your household is opening the messages and marking them as read.
If you are not receiving email messages, please do not hesitate to contact the museum by phone at 413-584-6011 or by email at [email protected].

Troubleshooting Tips

Problem
Historic Northampton does not have the correct email address in its email system.
Solution
Contact Historic Northampton at
[email protected].

Historic Northampton will check to see that your email address is spelled correctly.  We will also check your contact record.  Your contact record tells us which messages were sent to you and if the messages have bounced.

Problem
Your email address was "unsubscribed" either intentionally or unintentionally.

But I unsubscribed years ago?
By law, Constant Contact honors your decision to unsubscribe until you officially "opt-in" to receiving messages again.

But I never unsubscribed?
Sometimes people hit the unsubscribe link by mistake.  Sometimes people forward a message to a friend and the recipient hits the unsubscribe link or marks the message as SPAM.

Solution
Contact Historic Northampton at
[email protected] to find out if your email address is unsubscribed.

How does an unsubscribed contact resubscribe?
1. Sign up for the email list from the website.
or
2. Contact us.  We will send you a "Resubscribe me" message directly from Constant Contact.  When you receive the message, click on the link to "opt-in."  Constant Contact will resubscribe you.

Problem
Solution
Historic Northampton's email messages were marked as SPAM and sent to your spam or junk folders instead of to your inbox.
1. Check your spam or junk folder.
2. If they see your email there, then safelist the email address [email protected].
3. Safelisting (formerly referred to as "whitelisting") an email address ensures that emails sent from a specific address reach the Inbox, instead of being marked as spam.
4. Each email provider or security service has their own instructions for adding email addresses to a safelist.  Look for "Add Contact" or "New Contact" or "Allowed List."   Contact Historic Northampton at [email protected] if you need more information.

Problem
A security program on your computer blocked the messages from reaching your inbox.  Certain firewall and intrusion prevention security programs can interfere (or block) email from Constant Contact. If you aren't receiving our emails and you already safelisted our email address in your email client, you may also have to update the safelist in your security program as well. This is less likely to affect web-based email programs, like Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL, and more likely to affect desktop-based email programs, like Outlook, Thunderbird, or AppleMail, because they sit behind the firewall for an operating system or network.
Solution
View instructions from Constant Contact by clicking this link.

Safelist an email address in a security program

Problem
Someone else in your household is opening the messages and marking them as read.  The subject line no longer appears in bold typeface.
Solution
Many email systems have a way to "mark an email as unread."
