PROPERTIES

Historic Northampton owns three houses and a barn on large contiguous lots on Bridge Street (Route 9) within a short walk of downtown Northampton:

• Nathaniel Parsons House (1719) - a first period center-chimney house with late 18th and early 19th-century additions.  Parsons House is currently undergoing significant structural restoration and is therefore closed to the public. However, a great deal of information about the house and the families who lived here is available online. 


• Isaac Damon House (1813) - a federal period center-hallway house designed by the most prominent builder of public buildings and bridges in the Connecticut Valley in the early 19th century. The house currently functions as our administrative and research center, and houses most of our object and archival collections. The gallery wing at the back, added in 1985, provides space for our ongoing schedule of changing exhibitions and public programs.
  
  
• Pomeroy-Shepherd House (1797) - this federal period center-hallway house was modernized in the later 19th century and then re-colonialized in the early 20th century. It the home of innkeeper Asahel Pomeroy between 1810 and 1833, and of the Shepherd family from 1856 to 1969. It is now rented out to Mass Humanities, providing important operating revenue for Historic Northampton.
  
  
• Shepherd Barn (1803-1806) - this building appears on the 1853 map of Northampton and may have been built soon after the Shepherd house. It houses a collection of local business signs and weather vanes.
