A Gift of Stock
If the value of your investments has risen, you might consider making a gift of stock to Historic Northampton. It’s a simple process and can provide you with significant tax savings.
Here’s how it works: If you’ve held the shares of stock for more than a year, the value of the appreciated shares can be deducted as a charitable donation and you won’t pay any capital gains tax on them. To request instructions for sending your gift of appreciated securities or learn more, please call Laurie Sanders, Co-director, at (413) 584-6011 or write to her at lsanders @ historicnorthampton.org. IRA Charitable Rollover
An IRA rollover allows donors 70 ½ or older to reduce their taxable income by making tax-fee charitable distributions directly from their IRAs. You can contribute any amount up to $100,000 each year from your IRA – without having to pay income taxes on your withdrawals – by directing distributions to Historic Northampton or other qualified non-profits that are meaningful to you. The distributions are not subject to federal income tax and allow you to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution. To ensure that your gift is accurately processed and that you are listed as the donor of record, please have your donation sent to: Historic Northampton 46 Bridge Street Northampton, MA 01060 And please let us know to expect your gift by contacting Laurie Sanders, Co-director, at (413) 584-6011 or lsanders @ historicnorthampton.org. Bequests
Designate Historic Northampton as the recipient of cash, real estate, or another asset in your will. Or you can leave a percentage of your overall estate to Historic Northampton.
A meaningful legacy gift can be made by listing Historic Northampton as a beneficiary of your will. While we suggest you consult your estate planning professional regarding bequests, you can use the following language: "I give the sum of $_______ [or a percentage, the rest, residue or remainder of my estate] to Historic Northampton with its principal office in Northampton, MA, or its successors, for general purposes, without restrictions."
Other Legacy Gifts
There are other ways besides bequests to help Historic Northampton benefit generations to come.
