Parsons House Community Archaeology Dig
From May 19–June 6 2015, archaeologist Linda Ziegenbein oversaw a public archaeological excavation at the 1719 Parsons House at Historic Northampton. Schoolchildren, visitors and adult volunteers unearthed items discarded as trash by Parsons House residents who lived in the house from circa 1719 - 1790. $25,000 Membership Challenge Grant Awarded
In January 2016, Historic Northampton was awarded a $25,000 membership challenge grant from an anonymous donor. In 2015, an anonymous benefactor challenged the museum to raise $25,000 in new or returning memberships by December 31, 2015. Over 260 new members joined over 60 returning members to meet this challenge. Read the full article |
William G. Pomeroy Foundation Awards $20,000 Grant
The William G. Pomeroy Foundation has awarded Historic Northampton a critical $20,000 operating support grant. Thanks to this timely transitional assistance, Historic Northampton can meet operating costs while seeking membership support from the Northampton community. The William G. Beveridge Family Foundation Awards $5,000 Grant
The Beveridge Family Foundation approved a grant of $5,000 towards Historic Northampton's basement stabilization project. This grant is a substantial contribution to the program of collections care undertaken by acting director Nancy Rexford. The Beveridge Foundation funds will be used to purchase three high-quality Santa Fe Classic dehumidifiers, essential for stabilizing humidity in the basements. Read the full article |
The Bridge Street School Sprouts
The Bridge Street School Sprouts are growing organic vegetables this spring in boxed gardens on the grounds of Shepherd House. The Sprouts continue in the tradition of earlier generations of Northampton residents who grew food in their yards including previous Shepherd House residents. Letters written by Thomas Munroe Shepherd the describe the gardens in 1916. Read the full article |
