Having shared the job of responding to emergency calls with a private ambulance company, the Northampton Fire Department took over responsibility for handling all emergency calls in Northampton in 2008. This was a major undertaking, a key step in the twenty year project of building a new Northampton Fire Rescue Department. Here are indications of the breadth of the changes:
What does the Northampton Fire Rescue do? What do modern firefighters do? And how do they do it?
Three Northampton firefighters—Tim McQuestion, Natalie Stollmeyer and Daryl Springman —will address these questions. They will explain how and why the nature of the fires they handle has changed, how firefighters have responded to the consequences of these changes, and how rescues are done in difficult places. Local author and photographer Peter Norman will introduce his new book Northampton Fire Rescue and show some of the photographs he took of the firefighters at work. All photographs shown here are by Peter Norman. |
