Historic Northampton is pleased to announce that it was accepted to the state Roving Archivist Program. The Roving Archivist Program provides Massachusetts Institutions that house historical documents with access to a professional archivist to assist them with setting goals, policies, and procedures for processing their collections.
This non-monetary grant was made possible through the Massachusetts State Historic Records Advisory Board (MA SHRAB) and the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) grant program. The Roving Archivist Program is an exciting opportunity for Historic Northampton. Historic Northampton has a large archive of documents, ephemera, account books, images and other archival materials that document the history of Northampton. Roving Archivist Sarah-Jane Poindexter conducted an onsite visit of the collection at the end of February and will prepare a report based on this assessment. |
Poindexter’s recommendations will be used to update organizational policies and procedures in caring for the archival collections. "The Roving Archivist Program is thrilled to see Historic Northampton take advantage of our services as they strive to become the best collection stewards they can be," Poindexter said.
This process will allow Historic Northampton to ultimately better preserve Northampton's history and find ways to increase awareness and better access to the collection both onsite and online.
